Caring for a human hair unit between appointments
A human hair unit behaves like hair that no longer receives oil from a scalp. It needs moisture put back in, gentle handling and a little protection while you sleep. These are the habits we recommend to every client who leaves the studio with a new unit.
Wash less often than you think
Most units only need washing every ten to fourteen days of wear. Use a sulfate-free cleanser, work it through with your fingers in one direction and never pile the hair on top of the cap.
Condition from the mid-lengths down
Keep conditioner and masks away from the knots at the base of the lace; product build-up there loosens them over time. A deep conditioning mask once a month keeps curl and wave patterns defined. Our wig care and styling collection lists the products we use in the studio.
Dry it on a stand
Blot with a microfiber towel, then let the unit air dry on a stand so the cap keeps its shape. If you use heat, keep it below 180 degrees Celsius and always on dry hair.
Protect it at night
Sleep in a satin bonnet or on a satin pillowcase, and brush from the ends up before you put the unit away. If tangling or dryness persists, bring the unit in; a restoration visit often brings it back without any replacement.
